6/30/18

Rain continues all night. I wait for the rain to stop. At 11 I head out in the light rain. I find tape and head back to the tent. Stop by drying racks across the road from my turn off. They are drying fish heads. Glad my camp is not down wind. Rain stops in the evening and my stuff starts to dry.

Back to a library for blog update. I finish the month worth of blog entries. As I return to camp I remember that I need packing tape. So I must search out tape tomorrow. It is a pleasure not to fight rain and wind as I return to camp.  Rain starts as I get my tent setup.

The moisture laden clouds distribute some of what they promise.  The wind pushes me what a pleasure to have it at my back.  I make Reykjavik around noon.   Start to update the blog at the library.  As evening comes I start for my camping spot and pick up a little food on the way.  As I leave town the wind I am riding against keeps bring me to a stop.  Rain has also started.  I am finally left pushing for the last mile of the two from town.
Then I am in trees and protected from the rain and driving wind.

I am ready camera in hand and helmet on.  The Arctic Terns come after me and I slow as they dive at my head.

Wind and rain eased back.  Traffic increased as I ride across farm land.  Bugs bounce off my face as the wind is not there to keep them away.  The god are still having their fun.

6/26/18

Packing tent wet.  Nothing is dry so I hope to wear the clothes dry.  Lighter rain and wind than yesterday.  Rain lets up mid day.  Heard of horses races me and leaves me behind.  Fence at the end of field keeps them from make it embarrassing.  Then pass a rider and feel better until I climb a hill.  Then the hill slows me down and horse and rider trots past.  Time to change things and I head to a hot springs.  Sitting in the hot pool puts my mind in happy place and my toes are warm.

6/25/18

Wind has picked up and from the southwest the direction I am going.  Rain and ice pellets come in long waves.  Gloves and mittens shells leak first keeping my fingers numb.  Boot follow and neoprene sock do not keep the toes from being soaked and toes freezing.  After making 20 miles at a crawl I spot a small road going into some trees.  Yes trees.  I camp out of the wind.  I hope tomorrow weather is a tad nicer for my travels.

Rest day.  Rode 5 miles to a hotel to check email.  It rains in afternoon.  Gloves and boots are slowly drying.

6/23/18

Still I am heading into the wind.  Sand and gravel make it rough going.  Pools of water cover the road.  Noon the rain starts and an hour later boots and gloves are soaked.  Wind shifts more from east giving me an afternoon boost.  The ringing out the gloves only last a short while.  I need better mittens.  I returning to the camp that I started this highlands adventure from.  Cold and wet I climb into my tent.

6/22/18

A little rain as I ride into the wind.  Yes the gods changed the winds as I change directions.  I take a straighter way back, but on a smaller road.  No built road base so there is loose sand and gravel. Water crossing bring addition challenges.  See no cars today.  I will see what tomorrow will bring as I work my way back through the this volcanic desert.
